A team of 25 teachers gathered early Saturday morning, September 22, at the District Office for the opening session of the 2007-08 DOLCHE project. Canadian film director Nikos Theodosakis joined in via an interactive videoconference to share his passion and rationale for incorporating filmmaking into 21st century classrooms and to introduce the DOLCHE participants to the process of filmmaking.
During the morning session, Nikos introduced the Filmmaker’s Checklist:
- Development
- Pre-production
- Production
- Post-production
- Distribution
and shared examples of the many ways teachers approach filmmaking – with engaging students in learning at the heart of every project.
The teachers teamed up for a working lunch and began planning for a film they will produce over the next month. During the afternoon session with Nikos, each team “pitched” its idea for a teacher-produced three-minute video. The teams will return on October 22 for a Level II training with Nikos, during which they will present their first DOLCHE films.
DOLCHE coordinators (Dave Byrd, Gail Desler, and Krishna Harrison-Munoz) invite all DOLCHE participants – past, present, and future – to join the conversation by submitting comments to this post.
